A little about me.
My professional journey in Health, Safety and Environmental practice has taken me through more than two decades of remarkably varied workplaces, projects, industries and challenges.
My experience has included construction and multi-contractor environments, renewable energy, heavy-vehicle logistics and transport, facilities management, remote operations and other operational environments. Along the way I have worked across risk management, incident investigation, contractor engagement, workforce training, emergency preparedness and practical field-based HSE support.
Those years have provided technical knowledge and practical experience.
More importantly, they have taught me about people.
Experience Has Been My Teacher.
No two projects are identical. No two organisations are identical. Certainly, no two people are identical.
Experience has taught me that effective HSE practice requires more than legislation, procedures, systems and documentation.
Those things matter enormously.
So do relationships.
So do respect, communication, education and trust.
Before we can influence outcomes or encourage meaningful change, we must first understand the people and circumstances before us.
Strong relationships create an environment in which learning, improvement and professional growth may thrive.
A number of my recent opportunities have arisen through people with whom I have previously worked. I regard that continuing professional trust as both a compliment and a responsibility. Those experiences have also reinforced the value of being able to step into an established HSE environment, understand what is needed and provide continuity while an organisation works toward its longer-term solution.
Ultimately, HSE Is About People.
Things will go wrong.
Plans change. Systems are tested. Mistakes occur. Circumstances sometimes develop in ways nobody anticipated.
Those are often the moments when an HSE professional can make their greatest contribution.
Not necessarily by speaking the loudest.
By remaining calm.
By listening.
By understanding the circumstances.
By knowing what must be known, or where reliable knowledge can be found.
Then by helping the people involved find a practical way forward.
My experience has taught me that relationships, respect and calm communication build influence, while knowledge and continual learning underpin professional confidence.
Sharing What Experience Has Taught Me.
Perhaps this is the part of the journey that matters most to me now.
Throughout our lives, the people we remember are often those who taught us something meaningful.
A teacher.
A coach.
A mentor.
A trusted colleague.
I believe the same can be true of HSE professionals.
My work has included training, coaching, workforce engagement and practical interaction with project teams, alongside formal training in areas including occupational health and safety, advanced wind turbine rescue, first aid and emergency response.
I have also undertaken ASIST Suicide Prevention Training.
For me, these experiences reinforce a simple belief:
The greatest contribution we can make is to leave people with greater capability, increased confidence and improved preparedness.
Whether through guidance, mentoring, teaching, coaching or simply being available to listen, I hope to share what experience has taught me while continuing to learn from those I meet.
Now, Perhaps, You.
I do not know what brought you to this page.
Perhaps you represent a business navigating an HSE challenge.
Perhaps you are an HSE professional developing your own capability.
Perhaps a project needs an experienced perspective.
Or perhaps something you have read on these pages resonated with you.
Whatever the reason, I do not presume that my experience will necessarily be the right fit for your journey.
That is something we can discover together.
I will bring my experience, knowledge, perspective and willingness to listen.
You bring your circumstances, knowledge, aspirations and challenges.
And if our values and purpose align, perhaps we can achieve something worthwhile together.
